It's too hot to play...

Seriously.

It's hot.

I sort of wish my boys were here so I didn't look so foolish running through the sprinklers by myself.

Okay.

I didn't really do that, but I did find something else to do!

It's been the weekend of SEWING projects.

See, my sewing machine has a short power cord.

So I pull the kitchen table over closer to the outlet.

Which is also RIGHT NEXT TO THE AIR VENT!

Score me!!!

So, what did I sew?

A quilt top... but it's too hot to quilt it right now.  Nothing says "Heat Exhaustion" like holding a quilt on your lap when it's over 100 degrees outside. So instead it's hanging on my banister just waiting for a cool day or a long drive.

Some new... uhhh... I don't know what they're called.  They hold my curtains back.

A "couch" runner... which if you have children and your couch back is open to the dining room table and right next to the back door will save you tons in cleaning... because every time they got up from the table or came in from outside they would run their hands along the back of my new pretty grown up couch.  I was NOT impressed.   So, I made this removable, washable, kid friendly piece of insurance.

And my favorite... runners for my new living room tables...

Seriously, my favorite.

It's weird that a small piece of fabric can put a smile on my face.  It's not just the fabric... it's all of it.

Now that our basement is finished, and we have a great family room for the boys to be boys in, I can finally have a PRETTY adult space.

And it's exactly what I want.  I spent ages shopping for the perfect couch, months for tables... and now, it's the little things that are falling into place.  I still need lamps and one more small table for next to the couch, but it's almost done... and it's perfect.

Closet Cooking: Warm Bacon and Spinach Salad

Source: Closet Cooking

Seriously, THIS is a salad.  My husband practically licked his plate clean.    Click HERE for the recipe.

I only made a few minor adjustments...

1. More veggies... about 6 ozs vrs the 4 called for of spinach, 8 ozs of mushrooms instead of 4 (we like mushrooms), but about the same amount of onion (I eyeballed it).

2. I used thick cut PEPPERED bacon, because that's our favorite, and only 3 slices (but it was probably about the same once you figure in the thick cut).

3.  I had no Dijon mustard, and since I have 4 other types of mustard open in my fridge, I felt it would be inappropriate to buy and open a 5th... so I just used my favorite spicy brown mustard.

4.  I added just a SPLASH of water to the dressing, just to thin it out a touch and since I had more veggies to cover.

Next time, I will probably cut the sugar in half, use a little less bacon and an extra egg instead.

BUT there will be LOTS of next times, because this was so quick and yummy.  It seems like a lot of steps, but really it's simple... and since you cook everything in the same pan, clean up was a breeze.

This was enough to STUFF Mark and I.  Because it's so hearty (and sinful with the bacon!), it really does not feel like you are eating a bunch of veggies.  I'm sure if you served it with bread or with soup, it would stretch a LOT further.

Go make this!!

I almost pee'd my pants.

Yes.  That is the title of this post.

No, I didn't ACTUALLY pee my pants, but it was close.  And I really do want to emphasize that I DID NOT PEE MY PANTS.

I did almost pass out from hyperventilating trying to stop laughing so I didn't pee my pants.  But I didn't pass out either.

I couldn't talk for a good 5 mins though.

And my husband thought I was freaking losing my mind.

Okay, sooooo.... it's probably not everyone's cup of tea.

She swears a lot... and names a lot of body parts that usually don't come up in polite conversation unless you're talking to your ob-gyn or maybe your urologist.

BUT if you've ever read her blog and chuckled, you'll probably laugh your fool head off and have to insist that your husband pull over so you can use the facilities just so you can finish the chapter.

No.  Seriously.  Restrict your fluid intake or keep a bathroom close.  (And since I was reading this on my of my husband's "Let's go for a short ride" that turned into a FULL TANK OF GAS LATER ride, there were a few close calls.)

There was one point when she was discussing the benefits of having an episiotomy in the shape of a LIGHTENING BOLT LIKE HARRY POTTER, and I thought I was going to pass out.  And if you can make a woman who pushed out two ten pound children LAUGH ABOUT AN EPISIOTOMY you must be freaking genius.

And I would like to apologize now to my dad and siblings for bringing up episiotomies on a blog where I usually post cute pictures of my kids.

My Hook-er.

Remember, Ryan is a master conjugator (unlike his mother who obviously makes up words).

So, it wasn't really shocking that the phrase, "Uncle Wade, You're my Hook-er." was heard many many times over the last weekend.

And, just for clarification...

THIS is hook-er-ing.  See how Wade is "hooking" on to Ryan's hands??

And what do you do once you are "hooked" into position?

I Spy With My Little Eye...

SASHA AND ELSA!!!

Who??

Sasha and Elsa!  Duh!

The deer.

Not to be confused with the babies in Ryan's belly that are ALSO named Sasha and Elsa.

We actually saw 6, all were either Sasha or Elsa.

Except for the Spike, he was John.

Ryan informed us of their names.

And kept either shushing us so that we wouldn't startle them OR calling for them out his open window.

And PS... I so love the names my son has chosen for his imaginary children.  If I had a girl, she would SOOOOO be named Elsa!

More Dirt

Yeah... So this weekend proved the Trevor and Ryan aren't the ONLY boys in my life that like DIRT!

We went on a Beep Beep I'm a Jeep Adventure on Sunday.

And ended up looking like THIS:

And lets be clear here... that is not a SPLASH of mud.  That is the high water mark.

There was mud, and snow, and creek crossings and... well... lots of this:

(I think I should invent a wheel camera... thoughts??)

Oh, but it was okay... because there was also lots of this:

Which is the only reason I go along with these crazy nail biting rides.
Because that... that's what it's all about and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Boys+Dirt

Mark had some early morning yard work planned... before it got too hot.

Just filling in the holes in the bottom of the new fence... evening out a few settled spots in the yard.

Simple.

Dirt, Shovel, Rake.

And then Trevor and Ryan looked out the window.

And breakfast is over.

Getting dressed forgotten.
